Sales on Etsy in comparison with previous months
We love to start our monthly Etsy sales reports with positive news, though it’s not always possible. Fortunately, the August report brings us that opportunity! This month, we’re thrilled to announce a substantial increase in Etsy sales—a genuine boost compared to the previous month. Until now, the only month that showed any growth this year was April, and that was a modest gain of less than 1%. But now, we’re seeing an impressive 6.8% overall growth across the platform.
The daily sales chart over the past three months shows a steady upward trend since the end of June, with sales increasing gradually each week. We are confident that this positive momentum will continue in the coming months, culminating in a peak during November and December, which are traditionally the strongest months for all Etsy sellers.
Sales on Etsy by category in August
The good news keeps coming as we dive into the sales by category. It’s quite rare to see growth across all 15 categories, but that’s precisely what we’re witnessing this time around. The smallest increase is in the Shoes category, with a modest gain of just 0.5%. In contrast, the Clothing category saw the highest growth at 14.5%, followed closely by Art & Collectibles at 13%.
As we predicted in our previous report, the Craft Supplies & Tools category has also experienced growth, closely aligning with the platform’s average at 6.4%. The Accessories category has exceeded the average with an impressive 8.6% rise, and we believe this upward trend will continue, as it remains one of the top choices for gift buyers.

Sales on Etsy by country in August
In August, U.S. shops outperformed the Etsy average, achieving a notable 10% increase in sales compared to July. This impressive growth is clearly reflected in the chart below. On the other hand, UK shops faced a slight decline of about 2%, while German shops experienced an even larger drop of 3.25%.
Analyzing sales data from Etsy’s top 10 countries reveals that Australian shops saw the highest growth in August, nearly doubling the platform’s average with an 11.7% increase. Ukrainian shops followed closely with an 11% rise, while Canadian shops also performed above average, growing by 7.7%.
The sales trends in India and France offer a compelling story. In August, Indian shops experienced the highest growth, while French shops saw a decline twice as steep. This shift has resulted in Indian shops now surpassing French shops in daily sales. This pattern held steady in August, with Indian shops posting a 2.4% sales increase over July. Meanwhile, French shops also returned to positive growth, but at a modest 0.4%.

Newly opened shops on Etsy in August
Following a surge in new shop openings last month, August saw a slight dip. Just over 112,000 new shops were opened, about 5,000 fewer than the month before. It seems challenging to reach last year’s levels when these numbers were nearly double.
