Each month we will be publishing on the Koalanda blog a brief report on the Etsy sales of the preceding month. Here is the report for February 2025.

Sales on Etsy in comparison with previous months

February has been cold—not just in terms of weather but also for Etsy sales. While the drop isn’t dramatic compared to January, sales still declined by 3%, which is hard to ignore.

Daily Sales on Etsy - December 2024 - February 2025

Looking at the past six months, February stands out as the slowest. That said, the difference from September’s sales isn’t significant. If you’re an Etsy seller hoping this will be the lowest point of the year, you might want to brace yourself. Historical data suggests that summer tends to be even slower. Of course, every year is different, so it remains to be seen whether 2025 will follow the same pattern.

Sales on Etsy by category in February

This month, once again, we’re seeing a decline in sales across almost every category. However, the extent of the drop varies. Some categories have experienced only a slight dip—around or even below 1%—including Bath & Beauty, Clothing, Jewelry, and Toys & Games. In these cases, the difference is barely noticeable. However, other categories have taken a more substantial hit. The biggest declines are in Books, Movies & Music, which saw a drop of over 10%, and Pet Supplies, which fell by more than 7%.

Etsy Sales Growth by Category Feb 25

There is one exception to the downward trend: Weddings. This is the only category that saw an increase in February compared to January. But before you get too excited, the growth was a mere 0.15%—hardly a game-changer. That said, this category is likely to gain momentum in the coming months. Traditionally, as we move closer to peak wedding season in the summer, sales in this niche tend to rise on Etsy. So while February’s growth may be modest, it could be a sign of better things to come.

Newly opened shops on Etsy in February

As we anticipated, the surge in new Etsy registrations in January was partly fueled by New Year’s resolutions, with many aspiring entrepreneurs eager to start their own shops. However, this momentum didn’t carry over into February. While it’s true that February is the shortest month of the year, the decline in new seller sign-ups was still quite noticeable—over 15%. In total, 111,880 new sellers joined Etsy in February, a significant drop compared to the previous month. This pattern isn’t unusual, as the excitement of a fresh start in January often leads to a spike in new business ventures, followed by a more measured pace in the following months.

Holidays

April and May bring several key holidays that can drive sales on Etsy, offering sellers great opportunities to attract buyers looking for unique gifts and seasonal items. One of the biggest events in April is Easter (April 20, 2025), which influences sales throughout the month. Shoppers look for Easter decorations, personalized gifts, and themed accessories, including baskets, ornaments, and handmade toys. Additionally, Passover (April 12-20, 2025) may drive demand for Jewish holiday decor, seder plate accessories, and thoughtful gifts.

Moving into May, one of the biggest shopping events on Etsy is Mother’s Day (May 11, 2025, in the U.S., U.K., Canada, and many other countries). This holiday is a peak sales period, as shoppers seek personalized jewelry, custom home decor, and heartfelt gifts for mothers and grandmothers. Sellers offering engraved keepsakes, custom illustrations, and handmade self-care products can expect increased demand. Another key event is the start of graduation season, which runs from May through June and boosts sales of graduation gifts, keepsakes, and party decorations.

For Etsy sellers, these holidays present a great opportunity to refresh their listings, update seasonal keywords, and promote gift-ready products to attract buyers looking for something special.
