Sales on Etsy in comparison with previous months
It’s only the third Etsy sales report of 2025, and we’re already seeing an uptick in sales compared to the previous month. Unfortunately, that growth is quite modest — just 1.2%. Still, a small increase is better than a small drop. Average daily sales in March were close to the levels seen in September and October, although they haven’t quite reached them yet.
If we look at the daily sales chart for the past three months, March appears very stable. There are no sharp dips or spikes — aside from the usual weekend surges, which stand out clearly on the graph below.
Sales on Etsy by category in March
The positive March trend was reflected across almost all categories. Only four categories didn’t show growth compared to February: Paper & Party Supplies, Art & Collectibles, Books, Movies & Music, and Craft Supplies & Tools. That last one saw only a very minor drop of 0.6%, but it still had the largest share of sales on the platform this month.
The biggest decline came from Paper & Party Supplies — nearly 5%. That’s not insignificant, but it’s still far from the over-10% drops we saw in some categories last month.
The remaining 11 categories all saw higher sales in March compared to February. The strongest growth came from Weddings and Shoes — almost 15% each. The increase in Weddings was expected, with the warmer weather approaching and wedding season just around the corner. As for Shoes, it’s a smaller category in terms of sales volume, so it’s not unusual to see larger swings from month to month.

Looking at sales by country, U.S. shops saw a 1.1% increase — very close to the platform average. Sellers in the UK and Germany experienced similar growth.
Canada, Australia, and Turkey also showed small changes compared to February, but in the opposite direction, with drops ranging from just under 0.8% to nearly 2%.
The biggest growth came from shops in China — a striking 11.4%. While they had the largest decline last month, a double-digit increase this month stands out sharply against the overall platform average of 1.2%. Combined with more moderate growth for sellers in India (3.9%), it’s clear the competition between Chinese and Indian sellers for market share is far from over.
At the other end of the scale, French sellers saw the biggest drop — 4.8%. Meanwhile, Ukrainian shops showed the second highest growth after China, at around 6%, continuing to outperform France in terms of total Etsy sales.
Newly opened shops on Etsy in March
March saw the opening of 119,080 new Etsy shops — a 6% increase compared to February. The platform continues to attract new sellers, making the marketplace even more competitive with each passing month.

Easter (April 20, 2025) and Mother’s Day (May 11, 2025) are two major shopping moments during this period. Demand for personalized gifts, festive decorations, and themed items typically starts building weeks in advance, so it’s important to have listings prepped and optimized early. Toward the end of May, the graduation season also kicks in, driving increased interest in gifts and celebration essentials — another great opportunity for creative Etsy sellers to stand out.
All in all, the months ahead hold strong potential, particularly for shops that combine seasonal offerings with solid marketing and keyword strategies. Now is a great time to get ahead of the curve.
