Sales on Etsy in comparison with previous months
November is shaping up to be the prime month for Etsy sellers. The substantial discounts during the Black Friday frenzy, coupled with enticing promotions leading up to it, are proving to be powerful motivators for buyers, inspiring them to shop more than just on the main day. With the festive season around the corner, November stands out as the pinnacle for online sales, and this trend is evident on Etsy as well. We’re witnessing a significant surge in sales this November compared to the preceding months.
November has seen a remarkable 50% surge in overall platform sales compared to October. The graph below vividly portrays a consistent upward trajectory in sales since the month’s inception, with a notable surge between November 24th and 28th. These specific days marked a collective decision by a significant number of buyers to capitalize on the substantial discounts offered by Etsy, despite Etsy’s campaign being announced as early as November 20th.
Sales on Etsy by category in November
November stands out as the singular month where we witness a remarkable upswing in sales across all categories on Etsy. Even in the Weddings category, which traditionally experiences a seasonal dip in sales during the winter months, we’ve seen a substantial 46% boost in November compared to October.
Across other categories, this surge exhibits significant variation – from the modest 12-15% uptick for Bath & Beauty and Craft Supplies & Tools to the impressive 98% boost for Bags & Purses, an 84% surge for Home & Living, 74% for Books, Movies & Music, and a substantial 70% increase for Toys & Games. Notably, the four categories experiencing the most substantial growth are also the ones featuring products traditionally sought after for Christmas gifts. Anticipate continued robust sales in these categories throughout December for this reason. It’s expected that Craft Supplies & Tools, with the smallest growth, will follow the norm. This category primarily caters to creators and Etsy sellers, who are actively engaged in crafting and selling products during the bustling month of November.

Holidays
With Black Friday now behind us, it’s likely that your sales have already hit their peak for the year. But don’t take your foot off the gas just yet – Christmas is still on the horizon. Insights from last year reveal that December was a powerhouse month for Etsy sellers, too. As many individuals tend to procrastinate their gift shopping until the eleventh hour, anticipate orders flowing in even beyond the mid-month mark.
Nevertheless, exercise caution when it comes to meeting production and delivery deadlines. Customers often assume they’ll receive their gifts before Christmas. Take a moment to assess whether you can guarantee timely delivery within these expectations. It’s a common occurrence for postal services to experience delays during these bustling times of the year.
If your experience signals a significant risk of the shipment arriving post-Christmas, honesty is the best policy. Communicate openly with your customer about the potential delay. While this might result in a canceled order, it could also spare you from a disappointed customer likely to leave a negative review. Your Etsy shop certainly doesn’t need that kind of kickstart to 2024.
