Etsy Sales Report – April 2025

Each month we will be publishing on the Koalanda blog a brief report on the Etsy sales of the preceding month. Here is the report for April 2025.

Sales on Etsy in comparison with previous months

Last month’s report began on a positive note, highlighting a modest but encouraging uptick in sales on the platform. Unfortunately, we can’t say the same this time. April sales fell short of March levels, with average daily sales down by about 2%. While the drop isn’t dramatic, April currently ranks as the slowest sales month in the past six months.

Average Daily Sales Etsy Nov-Apr 25

A look at the daily sales chart over the last three months reveals a noticeable dip around April 20th. The reason is clear—April 20th was Easter. We’ve come to expect these kinds of slowdowns around major holidays, especially family-oriented ones, when shopping online isn’t a top priority for most buyers. Of course, holidays can also be a sales opportunity, but it’s common to see a decline in platform-wide demand during the actual holiday dates.

That said, the final week of April showed strong performance, which gives us hope. There’s a good chance that May will bring a welcome rebound in sales.

Sales on Etsy by category in April

Sales figures by category were lower than the previous month in nearly all of the 15 main categories. The only exceptions were Shoes, with a modest increase of 1.8%, Jewelry, up 2.8%, and—unsurprisingly—Weddings, which saw a significant jump of 8.5%. We’ve often noted that Weddings is one of the most seasonally influenced categories. The summer wedding season consistently drives up sales during the warmer months, followed by a decline during the colder ones. It’s very likely that this category will continue to deliver the most positive results in the coming months. Even if we don’t see this level of growth every time, maintaining the current sales volume would already be a strong outcome.

Etsy Sales Growth by Category Apr 25

The sharpest percentage drops were in Toys & Games (down 5.5%), Pet Supplies (down 4.8%), and Books, Movies & Music (down 4.5%). While these categories contribute relatively little to Etsy’s overall sales, Craft Supplies & Tools—the platform’s largest category, including in April—also saw a notable decline. Its 4.2% drop is nearly double the average decrease across the platform.

When we look at Etsy’s monthly sales by country, we almost always begin by pointing out that U.S. sales tend to closely mirror the platform’s overall trends. But this month breaks the pattern. While the platform as a whole saw a modest dip, U.S. shops actually posted a slight increase in sales—up 0.75% compared to March.

The only other country among Etsy’s top ten markets to see growth in April was India, where sales rose by nearly 2% month over month.

All other countries in the top ten experienced a decline in sales this month, though the severity varied widely. The most significant drop came from the United Kingdom, where sales fell by a sharp 12.55%.

France recorded the second-largest decline, with sales down about 6%. This comes after French shops already posted the steepest drop last month as well.

Holidays

As we move into June and July, several holidays and seasonal events could have an impact on Etsy sales—both positively and negatively. In the United States, Father’s Day (celebrated on June 16 this year) is one of the key gift-giving occasions of the summer. Shoppers often look for personalized gifts, handmade cards, and novelty items, especially in categories like Jewelry, Clothing, and Home & Living. Sellers who offer dad-themed or customizable products should see a noticeable uptick in demand in the first half of June.

Independence Day in the U.S. (July 4) is another major holiday that may influence shopping patterns. While it’s not traditionally associated with gifting, it does lead to increased interest in party supplies, home décor, and seasonal items—particularly in red, white, and blue themes. However, it’s also a time when many buyers go offline to travel or spend time with family, which may result in a temporary dip in traffic and sales around the holiday weekend.

Outside the U.S., countries like Canada (with Canada Day on July 1) and France (with Bastille Day on July 14) also celebrate national holidays that can create short-term fluctuations in activity. Overall, sellers should prepare for a mix of short-lived slowdowns during the actual holiday dates and potential spikes in sales leading up to the celebrations—especially if they offer seasonal, giftable, or festive products.
