Sales on Etsy in comparison with previous months
In June, we observed a considerable decline in the average daily sales on Etsy. This trend persists for the third month in a row, with June experiencing a more significant drop. Following the declines of approximately 4% and 3% in the previous two months, the decrease in June amounts to around 5%. So far, June is the slowest month for Etsy sellers in 2023.
Should we be concerned about these numbers and interpret them as a sign of Etsy losing its appeal among buyers? Absolutely not!
Firstly, it’s important to recognize that the decline is only 5%, which isn’t that significant in the grand scheme of things.
Secondly, if we examine the data from last year, we observe that the sales figures were virtually the same. The graph below clearly illustrates how the sales for the first six months of both 2022 and 2023 closely align, with the curves overlapping throughout the entire period. Therefore, there’s no need to worry—everything is well with Etsy. Fluctuations in sales are a normal occurrence throughout the year, and it’s common for the summer months to be somewhat slower for the platform. However, we all know what lies ahead in November and December.
Sales on Etsy by category in June
For the first time this year, we’re witnessing a decline in sales in every single category. Even the Weddings category is affected, with sales experiencing a decrease of around 7% compared to May.
The largest decline can be seen in the Shoes category, with a significant drop of 11%, followed by Bath & Beauty (9%), Home & Living (8%), and Jewelry (8%). It’s worth noting that sales in the Shoes category typically represent a smaller percentage of the overall platform sales, which is why we often observe the most significant fluctuations there in terms of percentage. On the other hand, sellers in the Toys & Games (3%), Accessories (4%), and Pet Supplies (4%) categories were less impacted by this negative trend.

Sales on Etsy by country in June
The decrease in sales during June is also noticeable when examining the data for individual countries. Only two out of the top 10 countries on Etsy showed growth in June compared to May. Those countries are the UK, with a modest increase of 2% (although they experienced a significant decline of nearly 10% in April) and France, where sales increased by over 5%.

Among these 10 countries, French sellers on Etsy stand out as the only ones who consistently achieved consecutive monthly sales growth. They experienced a growth rate of approximately 5% last month, following a decline of less than 3% in the previous period. On the other hand, Australian stores witnessed a slight decrease of around 4% in June.
Most countries experienced a decline of approximately 5-6% in sales (Canada, Germany, China, Ukraine, India), while stores from the USA faced a more significant decline of over 7%.
Newly opened shops on Etsy in June
There were 224,975 new shops registered on Etsy in June. We also observe a decline in this indicator compared to the previous month.
